Unity Technologies & Matterport
2015 – 2019
Event Producer | Brand Strategist
Challenge
At Thinksquirrel, we operated as a developer-partner within Unity’s ecosystem, building tools, applications, and experiences designed to serve the interactive creator community. Our goal was to increase the adoption of Unity-compatible products and demonstrate their real-world value through immersive, high-impact use cases.
We faced three key challenges:
Market Positioning: Establish Fluvio, our proprietary fluid dynamics engine, as a go-to developer tool in the Unity Asset Store, especially for creators seeking physics-based visual effects.
Adoption Acceleration: Support broader adoption of Matterport’s VR Showcase in the consumer market by optimizing for platforms like Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR.
Creative Use Case Development: Showcase Fluvio’s versatility through real-world installations that could bring developer tools to life in a public-facing context.
Strategy
We addressed these challenges through a strategy grounded in developer enablement, community engagement, and immersive brand storytelling—all tailored to Unity’s ecosystem.
Key initiatives included:
Content & Developer Education: Produced tutorials, demo videos, and case studies that helped Unity developers understand and integrate Fluvio into their projects, highlighting its unique simulation capabilities.
Conference Activations: Led booth experiences and post-event meetups at GDC and Unite, driving over 10,000 badge scans and increasing hands-on exposure among Unity developers.
Brand Revamp: Refreshed Thinksquirrel’s visual identity and messaging for major industry events, ensuring alignment with Unity’s developer-first positioning.
Creative Collaboration: Co-developed Rainbow Rain with Crayola and Beaudry Interactive, an installation that used Fluvio in a playful, motion-tracked public experience.
Rainbow Rain
Installed at the Crayola Experience within the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN, this interactive installation allows visitors to dance and move beneath a video shower of realistic and colorful falling “wax.” This experience combines Fluvio’s scientifically accurate fluid dynamics visualization with a motion capture device.
